Rockstar injury

July 16, 2008

On the way home from the doctor's office this morning, I was composing this blog in my head... full of wit and sarcasm. Just a moment ago, I sat down to type and realized that the many-word post I originally intended would be impossible. Why? Because of THESE. Splints.

I can't type, except if I do the exhausting "hunt and peck" method. And I certainly can't play the piano. Or get into many yoga positions. I need to wear these things 24 hours/day. Sexy.

What happened? My first rockstar injury happened. No, not from headbanging, from lifting gear, or from too many hours intensely playing my instrument. My injury happened because during all those hours driving on tour, I had been holding the steering wheel in a bad position and sprained both of my thumbs and aggravated my tendonitis. Since I've been home I've been in denial, thinking the pain would go away. But I haven't been able to open doors, screw a toothpaste cap, or pull up my pants for five weeks. Can you think of a wussier rockstar way to injure yourself?

Go ahead. I dare you to try.

Ouch! Hope your injuries heal quickly.

I actually just sprained my right wrist on Friday when we mounted our new flatscreen tv (woo-hoo!). It made for an "interesting" time serving food the following day.

I still have a little trouble squeezing toothpaste out of the tube.

Oh! We match! Almost...
I have one on my left arm due to falling out of a tree. Did you know the fire department doesn't get kittens out of trees anymore? I had to do it all by myself. Kitten was safe, but I lost my balance and fell.

As for the witty sarcastic post, dictate it to Kevin and make him type it. :]

oh ow ow!! i feel your pain, ms. hirsch. :) only mine is my right PINKY. PINKY! that's right. no one really uses the pinky except to 'pinky swear.' it clicks. and sometimes it clicks with a searing pain. and i dont know why. it's subsided but i went to my doc and they had no idea, sent me to a hand doc and he saw it, felt it and said 'huh. that's new.' i was prescribed a hand brace/splint thingy. mine is blue! i have to wear it at night (b/c moving your pinky and having it click into/out of place hurts way more in the middle of the night when you're sleeping).

here are some bright sides for you though:

-wont have to do those thumb-stand yoga positions...whew.
-you can scream out 'who needs opposable thumbs!!' and then give people the middle finger.
-while wearing the sexy splints, go up to random people and say 'my thumbs are toasty.'
-while wearing the sexy splints, hold a cup of hot tea between your hands and not worry about burning yourself
-be chauffeured around by hubby!
-you can still work the remote! huzzah!
-work on the perfectly centered 'self-portrait in the bathroom' profile photo. [done! :D]

i tried to give you a smidge of sarcasm and a modicum of wit to make you feel better.
seriously though. im sorry. not only is it painful, i would imagine but wayyy inconvenient for an active person. i hope you and your thumbs feel better soon...xx

Terami - hope you get better soon!

Although having splints on both hands suck, you do look very rockstar-ish in your photograph. :)

I know that I'm probably getting tendinitis, but I'm in denial. I don't want to think about it. But as a piano player (and someone who's on the computer ALL day at work), its' probably inevitable.

I agree with Chelly, though. Dictate your lovely and witty post to Kevin and have him type it! Surely we can't go without our witty and smart Terami blogs for too long!

Get better! *hugs*

Oh Terami! I hope you have some good pain meds. So I guess you'll be wearing more dresses now?
As for your blog posts, maybe you could get Kev to dictate for you?
Maybe for your next tour you could employ a certain other rock star's method of having a driver while you lounge in the back seat ;)
Feel better!
