Right now I'm re-reading the Tao Te Ching. 10,000 years ago, when I was a college student, I drew the short straw in Religious Studies class and had to give an oral report on Taoism. I think I presented in haiku:
The Tao is the way
Feet do not move on the path
Return to the void
The teacher was not impressed.
If I gave the presentation now, I would say:
These words are empty
I have no understanding
When I try, I fail
...and if the teacher didn't understand, I would say, exactly.
In my religions class I got Buddhism. I was lucky.
My worst story is having to do an impromtu speech on "You should eat your own boogers because..."
I had two minutes to prepare.
