For the past few weeks, I've been really enjoying Roger von Oech's Creative Whack Pack - which is a deck of cards with different solutions to creative problems on each face. Every morning, I pull a new card and set it in front of me and consider how I can apply it to my work throughout the day. Some days the suggestion is more helpful than others and some days the suggestion is completely confounding.
Today's card is "Conform". When in Rome, do as the Romans. It challenges me..."To what standards should you be conforming?" Hmm. I usually don't think of creativity as including conformity. Do you? However, after considering this advice for the past few hours, I'm beginning to have little bursts of light in my grey cells.
It's like a magic trick...Look at my distracting, flashy hand! Woop! Something happened in the other hand while you weren't looking. Magic! Similarly, you can squeeze an extra ounce of creative juice in your project or personality by distracting people with something familiar and comfortable.
Very tricky. I like it.
