Immediately after awakening in the morning, there is a slim pause between sleep and alert consciousness. In an effort to benefit from the Alpha or Delta waves I was just experiencing, I try to become aware of that pause...without rushing the alertness which normally follows. I sense the space of dewy night air, stillness and slumber. I push my toes to the edge of the bed and curl them around the sheets, a feeling that competes with the nicest chocolate or a good rainfall. I think, I am awake, as I imagine my thoughts unfurling like a time-lapse movie of a blooming tree.
