Note: These were my favorite things...not necessarily released in 2006. All releases by friends are exempt because that's just not fair.
ALBUMS
Nothing is listed in any particular order, mind you...
EdIT - Crying Over Pros for No Reason
This 2004 release was the soundtrack to my 2006. It's the sound of an electron with a broken heart...or with palm sweat while it breakdances in front of the most beautiful girl in the world.
DeVotchKa - Curse Your Little Heart
Waking up in 1910, with the age of digital industry still pulsing in my veins, this reminds me that corsets and designer jeans are kissing cousins. Oh! The drama! The fainting splendor of it all.
Greg Laswell - Through Toledo
Guitar. Slightly aching voice. Poetic, down-to-earth lyrics. I know that's a formula which has already been blended to death with foam and a double shot, but Greg does it so well. And he does it all himself. Plus, he totally responded to my fangirl MySpace message. Which makes him rad.
Mute Math - Mute Math
The drums make me excited. So do the basslines. I listen while I drive my car to nowhere in particular and wish that I could be in a cool boyband too. Though anyone who calls this music boyband is stuck in the 90s. It's just...there are boys in this band and I've run out of adjectives.
Final Fantasy - He Poos Clouds
If I was deaf and had to imagine the sound of kittens playing in sparkling, pristine snow, I would conjure this album. And the kittens? They would have opposable thumbs so that they might play stringed instruments. And if that image doesn't gag you...then might I suggest buying this album?
