Telescopes and bromeliads

November 13, 2006

At a luncheon several years ago, we met a man who builds telescopes. He was passionate about lenses, metals, mechanics, heavenly bodies, and mathematics. Even though we had no shared interest in the topic, he was fascinating to talk with. It was as though his energy was pouring out his mouth and filling the air around our conversation. Now, every time we talk with an enthusiastic someone who specializes in something weird and wonderful, we remember the telescope builder. He's our benchmark.

A few weeks ago we met another such man - one who specializes in bromeliads. He's inspired us to pursue better care for our own plants. Yesterday we went back to see him and glean more conversation. This man? He's awesome.
And freaky.
And serious.
And insane.
Hardcore.
Just the way I like my peoples.
