When I have Important Things To Do, I find that I become obsessed with wonderful distractions. Distractions are always sweeter when they're mixed with an air of danger...danger that I will miss deadlines or danger that I will get caught slacking off.
So I present to you:
My Top 10 List of Sweet Distrations
01. Listening obsessively to Final Fantasy (Has A Good Home)
02. Journaling
03. Reading The Third Policeman (Flann O'Brien)
04. Having multiple meals in a week with Katie
05. Spending time at Barnes and Noble for no good reason
06. Making dorky little collages that involve rabbits and teatime
07. Calling Katie on the phone several times a day to discuss my distracions
08. Cleaning the house, then messing it up again
09. Organizing my closet, then piling it with junk
10. Reading Walking in This World (Julia Cameron) and feeling like I should journal and collage some more while listening to Final Fantasy, discussing distractions with Katie, and reading Flann while I take note of his use of unreliable first person narrative before I mosey over to the bookstore to pick something up about Buddhism or whatever... to make me feel whole and grounded, organized and structured, vibrant and free.
Believe it or not, this is how I work best...how I focus better...and how I feel the most alive, creatively. Life and caffeine are totally my friends right now.
