So, in the summer months as I was producing the music for these songs, I dubbed my studio The Sweat Box. Now that it's December and we're recording vocals, the converted bathroom where I stand for hours on end is called The Ice Box. It's daaaayum cold.
Now, I am not a girl for cold spaces. Cold weather, yes. Cold rooms, no. So I've done everything in my power to make the vocal booth as womb-like as possible. It's covered in blankets. I've strung up holiday lights. I light candles. I bring in a space heater. I brew tea. And whenever I leave the room to join the rest of the world, it feels like I'm exiting into a harsh, cold place. Couldn't I just live in that little box forever? People could push chocolate nourishment under the door and perhaps a few books...I'd be happy.
So, the recording is going VERY well. We're one week into this shut-in period of intensive vocal recording and we have six, SIX, songs done!
I've been fighting off a sore throat. Because it's so daaaayum cold in the house, I tend to wake up with that dry spot in my throat. So we sleep with a humidifier and I continually nurse a glass of water or a cup of tea. Only one day was my voice so weak that I'll have to go back and replace certain vocals. But that's ok. It's all part of it.
We'll probably take some pictures to share with you. I'm just a little on the lazy side so far. And, yes. I still record in my pajamas. Lovely pictures that fashion statement does NOT make! :)
I'm also working on my "Best of" 2005 list. I'll post it up soon. Promise.
