The weeks are just flying past. Frightening. Last week was The Week for me. We got Emily on a plane from Chicago and flew her out here for a whirlwind trip of long days and music. We were able to track 5 songs with her violin. (Time Machine, Intoxicated, Off the Ground, Anywhere but Here, and Love) Amazing how much better the real instrument sounds compared to the synth versions we've been confined to for all these years. But, then, Emily is an amazing player. I'm totally in awe of her musicality. Plus, she introduced me to The String Cheese Incident, who I've heard of but never listened to before. And lo, I quite enjoyed them.
So I've been spending the last few days playing catch-up with the album. Spicing up the songs now that I can hear them in all their string-glory.
There's one song that's been particularly annoying for me. However, Emily threatened to cry if I removed it from the tracklist, so I've committed myself to resurrecting it from the round file. Haven't worked on it yet this week because I'm so stuck on Love (which was a last minute replacement for The Collector - Katie, don't kill me.)
Just about every evening, Kevin comes into the office and complains that we need...neeeeeeeeeeed...to finish the album...nooooooooow. While I agree, I don't think he realizes how frustrating that is to hear. After all, I've never intended it to take as long as it's taking. That's just the way it goes. Some days are more productive than others. And some days I got shit to do that doesn't involve any instruments.
Sometimes I wish there was a brain-dump download that could attach all my hopes and expectations for these songs and reproduce them instantaneously for my ears. This old-fashioned noodling around is just too damn time consuming.
