When I create, the biggest thing I make is chaos. So in order to allow myself some space to begin work, I must clean the oh-so-sacred space. Papers need to be filed. Bills need to be paid. Notes need to be read or discarded. Order must prevail. Then, give me 20 minutes, and I'll have the shit-a-flyin.
Oh, and another thing. I've inherited my grandmother's habit of writing myself notes, which (thanks to the invention of the Post-It) are orderly organized in a row underneath my computer. So, I conveniently have phone numbers, reminders for appointments, email and web addies I keep forgetting, and a few lesser-used account IDs and their corresponding passwords.
Also near at hand is a typed piece of paper with inspirational quotes that I can pull out to self-medicate during those moments of waivering confidence. Maybe the whole world does this, but if they don't, I just invented the bestest method for feeling better.
