The Rock and The Hard Place

September 03, 2003

Torn between finishing this damn website and working on the songs before I leave for the East coast.

So, I think I have this journal thingie all updated...in case anyone's wondering, the older entries come from journals that I keep...they weren't originally posted here. It was weird to type them all out and spread the year in front of myself. I'm certainly not where I thought I'd be. I'm facing these upcoming shows without the new album, which I really thought I'd have by now. But I'm glad to stick it out.

So what do the new songs sound like now? What's changed? Well, we're thinning out the electronics AND thinning out the piano. I'm edging towards a sparse, clean sound. There needs to be room to breathe. And the songs themselves have morphed from my more radio-friendly pop efforts, to something a little less expected. I think this makes the songs more interesting...although it's still a totally accessible album.

Anyhow, I'm thinking of putting some demos up here...but at the rapid rate I'm slicing out songs, I'll be sure to regret it if I post them. I've just been in a mood like that for 3 months now. Waffling between wanting to finish the album and selecting the tracks with such criticism that nothing is good enough.

Maybe this vacation out East will do me good. I'm afraid I might go a little stir crazy. But I'm sure I'll manage. :-)
